Maximum limits of trans-fatty acids in food

The National Food and Nutrition Strategy 2023-2030 focuses on: building healthy and sustainable food systems; increasing the availability and affordability of nutritious food for all; reducing stunting, wasting, and obesity among children and adolescents; improving diets; and preventing diet-related NCDs. It sets goals to halt the increase in overweight/obesity in children and adolescents, reduce saturated fat intake, and eliminate industrial transfats. Early Detection of Chronic Diseases and Kidney Disease Initiative

This initiative was launched in 2021 to provide early diagnosis and treatment of chronic diseases to all citizens over 40 and those aged 18 or over with a history of chronic disease. It operates through over 3000 primary healthcare units across the country, providing screening services and education on preventive measures free of charge. Diagnosed patients are referred to hospitals to receive necessary treatments for free.

Strategy on nutrition for the Eastern Mediterranean Region 2020-2030

The WHO strategy on nutrition for the Eastern Mediterranean Region (2020-2030) sets objectives and plans to improve nutrition in the region by 2030. This includes preventing overweight, obesity, and diet-related NCDs. The strategy sets targets to reduce the prevalence of overweight in children under 5, halt the rise in diabetes and overweight in adults, halt the rise in overweight in children and adolescents, and eliminate industrially-processed trans fats from the food supply. A framework for countries to reach these goals is provided.

Women's Health Support Initiative

The Presidential Sustainable Initiative to Support Egyptian Women's Health was launched in 2019 to provide women with free screening services across the country in a confidential and private atmosphere. These services include screening for non-communicable diseases, body measurements, and education about how to perform self-examinations and the importance of risk factors. Calls for screenings are received through the '100 Million Lives' campaign. In May 2024, the initiative reported that they had received 49 million visits since its launch.

100 Million Lives Campaign

A campaign of the Ministry of Health and Population for mass screening and treatment for the entire population of Egypt for Hepatitis C and non-communicable disease. Egypt Multisectoral Action Plan For Noncommunicable Diseases Prevention and Control 2018 – 2022

This multisectoral action plan aims to alleviate the burden of avoidable morbidity and mortality due to NCDs. It has been developed in order to achieve the nine national NCD targets adopted by Egypt in 2021, based on the nine voluntary global NCD targets. The 9 targets are: 15% reduction of premature mortality from NCD by 2022, and 20% by 2025. 5% relative reduction of physical inactivity by 2022, 10% by 2025. 20% relative reduction of salt/sodium intake by 2022, 30% by 2025. 10% relative reduction of tobacco use by 2022, 20% by 2025. 15% relative reduction of raised blood pressure by 2022, 25% by 2025. Halt the rise in diabetes and obesity through 2025. 10% coverage of drug therapy to prevent CVD by 2022, 15% by 2025. 70% availability of essential NCDs medicines and basic technologies to treat major NCDs by 2022, 80% by 2025.
