Fast food tax

In December 2024, the finance minister announced the introduction of a fast food tax in the 2025 budget statement. The tax, due to implemented from Januaury 1 2025, aims to support a reduction in the consumption of highly processed foods.The finance minister described the tax as a public health initiative as well as a fiscal measure. The tax will be 0.5% on the sales value of food sold at fast food outlets and restaurants.

Tax on sugar sweetened beverages

The government imposed a fee of US$0,002 per gram of sugar found in beverages at the start of 2024. However, in response to industry criticism, the tax was lowered to US$0,001 from the 8th February 2024.

Marketing of Breast-Milk Substitutes: National Implementation of the International Code Status Report 2016 (Promotion of Breastfeeding)

The 2016 report provides information on the status of implementing the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes and subsequent relevant World Health Assembly resolutions (“the Code”) in and by countries.
