The European Health Interview Survey (EHIS) and the EU statistics on income and living conditions (EU-SILC) are general surveys providing statistical information on the European Union (EU) population. Both surveys aim to collect cross-sectional and longitudinal data on a harmonized basis, with a high degree of comparability across EU Member States (MS), supporting the monitoring of policies on social inclusion and protection, health inequalities and healthy ageing.

EHIS focuses on health status, health determinants and healthcare activities, in the population aged 15 years or older while EU-SILC collects data on income, poverty, social exclusion, and living conditions in the population aged 16 years or older. Although these surveys have methodological differences, both include comparable data on body mass index based on self-reported weight and height.

The data included on these pages only relate to overweight and obesity.

NB. Data are based on self-reported height and weight.
